With reference to your letter of the 12th of July last,

No. 22598, and previous correspondence, concerning the

maintenance of the British Postal Agencies in China, I am

directed to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary

of State for the Colonies, that the Postmaster General nas

received a copy of the Treasury letter to the Colonial Office of the 2nd instant. I am to forward a copy of a letter dated

the 31st ultimo from the Manchester Chamber of Commerce

relative to this matter and of the reply which has been sent

to it.

The Postmaster General will be glad to learn at the

earliest possible moment the decision "hien is come to in the

matter.
